1902

Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. "Start of a glide; Wilbur in motion at left holding one end of glider (rebuilt with single vertical rudder), Orville lying prone in machine, and Dan Tate at right." October 10, 1902. 5x7 dry-plate glass negative attributed to the Wright Brothers. Via Shorpy.com.

And if you haven't seen it before, Shorpy.com is a great photo blog that posts historical photos, many from personal collections, many also from the Library of Congress. You can order prints through the website as well. Considering that many of these photos are in the public domain, and that the Library of Congress offers a similar service, it's reassuring to see that Shorpy's prices are pretty reasonable.
